I like to discuss some other factors for Disaster Resilient Housing. I have seen bamboo, cane and wooden structures for housing purpose in West Bengal, Assam and Andaman Islands, which are traditional form of disaster resilient houses. I like to omit the wooden structure from my suggestion here. Conservation of tree resources is the vital need all the time. So we should focus on " non-timber... " options for the affordability and other causes. Within 5 years, a tradition can be generated all over coastal Odisha. Growing of Bamboo and Cane should be prioritized in Watershed development, Social Forestry and Livelihoods promotion projects. Heavy Rain, Cyclone or Flood will not kill the resident of Bamboo/Cane structure houses . And a thin coat of mud plaster can make the walls fire-resistant; and cyclone-resistan

Because they can not access Malakangiri through 4-wheelers to come back on the same date. It is a big question of commitment for causes, or whatever the neatly drafted mission/ vision statement they have on their documents and websites. Those big NGOs (also called as donor agencies may a time) are waiting floods in coastal areas. As per my research, there is no chance of flood due to Mahanadi in 2013. Risky zones are Baleswar district, Bhadrak district, Jajpur district, Anandapur Subdivision(Kendujhar), and Gunupur Subdivision(Rayagada). Cyclone Hudhud that landed near Visakhapatnam and destroyed infrastructure in coastal Andhra Pradesh had a devastating effect on Odisha as well. Thousands of trees were uprooted and tribal huts damaged on October 12 and 13 by high speed winds and incessant rains. This was first cyclone experience for the people in Koraput’s history. Senior citizens say they have never experienced such kind of wind speed in their life. As per government records, the highest wind speed was 170 km per hour and lowest was 50. Koraput people had experienced flash floods but not cyclone of such intensity. Though I had experience of some cyclones (being born in coastal plain of Odisha) but had an impression that I am protected as far as cyclone is concerned because I have been staying at Koraput for the past 20 years.
